Na madrugada desta quinta-feira (29/7), um tremor de 8,2 na escala Richter abalou a costa do Alasca, nos Estados Unidos. A ameaça provocou um alerta de tsunami na costa oeste, que foi, em seguida, descartado. As ilhas Marianas do Norte e Guam também foram afetadas, segundo o NWS Tsunami Alerts.
